We are now accepting entries for the Short Story Contest which DAC is again sponsoring in support of the Third Annual Dahlonega Literary Festival which will be held in February 2006. Entries must be received before October 30 2005. Judges will be author/Prof. of English Literature, Brian Corrigan, book store owner Kate McElliott, playwright Tim Quigley, plus two additional published authors to be announed. Requirements for the contest:


  1. Short story: any topic suitable for a mixed audience

  2. 2,000 words maximum

  3. Previously unpublished.

  4. Typed and double spaced

  5. The story must have a title.

  6. Attach a short biography of the author.

  7. Entries must be received by October 30, 2005.

  8. All entries must be received in both hard copy and electronic form in Microsoft Word attached to an e-mail.
    The top ten stories will be published in a soft cover book to be sold at the Dahlonega Literary Festival and all year at area shops. All proceeds go to the non-profit Dahlonega Literary Festival, which is part of the Dahlonega Arts Council.

  9. Fees: $15 for the first entry and $10 for additional entries. Plus, each entrant can purchase a copy of last year's winning entries which were published: Signature Series, Volume I, Golden Short Stories at half price = $5.00 + $2.00 shipping. Winning entries will also get two complementary copies of the 2006, Volume II edition.

  10. Send your story electronically to info@DahlonegaArts.org

  11. Send your hard copy + entry fee and book order to: The Dahlonega Arts Council, PO Box 784, Dahlonega, GA 30533. Checks payable to: The Dahlonega Arts Council.

  12. Author of winning entries retain their copyright on their stories, only granting the Dahlonega Arts Council and the Dahlonega Literary Festival to use the story in the above named publication as well as any publicity/advertising for the festival.
